第九品 惡品(《法句經故事集》

克制性欲

人若已經作惡,切忌再犯,不可沉溺其中,不知自拔,
惡貫滿盈時,必定受苦報。(偈 117)

  從前有一比丘名叫斯亞沙卡,他對出家修行的生活不滿意,並且有自慰的習慣。當佛陀知道他的行為時,告誡他不要做會導致他遠離清淨修持的行為。佛陀也因此制定比丘不可沉溺於感官享樂的戒律。佛陀說這種行為要加以譴責。

「這種行為會使人產生苦痛。」佛陀說。

若人作惡已,不可數數作;莫喜於作惡;積惡則受苦。

If one some evil does
then do it not again and again.
Do not wish for it anew
for evil grows to dukkha.

【第117偈的故事】

從前有一比丘名叫斯亞沙卡,他對出家修行的生活不滿意,並且有自慰的習慣。當佛陀知道他的行為時,告誡他不要做會導致他遠離清淨修持的行為。佛陀也因此制定比丘不可沉溺於感官享樂的戒律。佛陀說這種行為要加以譴責。

「這種行為會使人產生苦痛。」佛陀說。

While residing at the Jētavana Monastery, the Buddha spoke this verse, with reference to the Venerable Seyyasaka.

For Venerable Seyyasaka was Venerable Kàludàyi’s fellow-monk. Becoming discontented with the continence required by the Religious Life, he started sexually stimulating himself. Thereafter, as often as he fell into this self-abuse, he broke the same rule. The Buddha heard about his doings, sent for him, and asked him, “Is the report true that you did such and such?” “Yes, Venerable.” “Foolish man,” said the Buddha, “why have you acted in a manner so unbecoming to your state?” In such fashion did the Buddha reprove him. Having so done, he enjoined upon him the observance of the rules. Then he said to him, “Such a course of action inevitably leads to suffering, both in this world and in the world to come.” So saying, the Buddha pronounced this Stanza.

十三僧殘法之一

[0579a11] 爾時世尊遊舍衛城。時迦留陀夷,欲意熾盛,顏色憔悴,身體損瘦。於異時獨處一房,敷好繩床、木床、大小褥被枕地,復敷好敷具,戶外別安湯水洗足具,飲食豐足,欲意熾盛,隨念憶想弄失不淨,諸根悅豫,顏色光澤。諸親友比丘見已問言:「汝先時顏色憔悴身形損瘦,如今顏色和悅光澤,為是住止安樂,不以飲食為苦耶?云何得爾?」答言:「住止安樂,不以飲食為苦。」彼復問言:「以何方便住止安樂,不以飲食為苦。」答言:「大德!我先欲意熾盛,顏色憔悴,形體損瘦。我時在一房住,敷好繩床、木床、大小褥被枕地,復敷好敷具,戶外別安湯水洗足之具,飲食豐足,我欲意熾盛,隨念憶想弄失不淨。我以是故住止安樂,顏色和悅光澤。」諸比丘言:「汝所為甚苦,何以言安樂耶?所為不安而言安耶?此正法中說欲除欲,說慢除慢,滅除渴愛,斷諸結使,愛盡涅槃。汝云何欲意熾盛,隨念憶想弄失不淨耶?」爾時諸比丘往至世尊所,以此因緣具白世尊。世尊爾時以此因緣集比丘僧,知而故問迦留陀夷:「汝審爾欲意熾盛,隨念憶想弄陰失精耶?」報言:「實爾!」世尊以無數方便呵責:「汝所為非,非威儀、非沙門法、非淨行、非隨順行,所不應為。汝今云何於我清淨法中出家,作穢污行弄陰失精耶?汝今愚人,舒手受人信施,復以此手弄陰墮精。」爾時世尊以無數方便呵責已,告諸比丘:「此愚人!多種有漏處,最初犯戒。自今已去與諸比丘結戒,集十句義乃至正法久住,欲說戒者當如是說:若比丘,故弄陰失精,僧伽婆尸沙。」如是世尊與比丘結戒。

(二)六群比丘

三、迦留陀夷,本是國王的大臣,又毗奈耶卷三註云︰「迦留陀夷黑光也,阿難徒弟也。」當世尊出家以後,淨飯王派他去勸說,並希望他能將世尊迎還王宮;可是當他見了世尊,聽佛說法之後,他竟也發心出家了。他的智慧很高,尤其對於在家婦女的勸化,特別有辦法。但他的生性貪欲,除了根本淫戒之外,僧殘以下的淫戒,差不多都是因他而制的。正因他好色多欲,故亦因了女人而證果,並也因了女人而橫死。有一次,他到人間行化,走到一個婆羅門的家裡,為婆羅門的女兒看上了。他雖多欲,但他絕不破戒,所以沒有答應婆羅門女的要求,於是他的大禍臨頭了,婆羅門女,反向她的父親誣告他對她非禮之後,他便遭受了一頓毒打。並且押送到國王面前,被國王訶責了一番。他在受到這一擊之後,便到舍利弗尊者之前,痛述遭遇,終於在舍利弗尊者的教誡之下,發勇猛心,而證阿羅漢果。證果之後,他又發心要度千家證入聖果;終於度到第一千家時,他便被人打死了,並且將他的屍體,埋在糞坑裡。那是因為那家的一個女人與外人私通,而被迦留陀夷撞見了,唯恐他會張揚出去,所以把他活活打死了。他雖證到了四果,但此乃係往昔的業報,正像目犍連尊者一樣,雖稱神通第一,仍不免死於外道之手。
